Opened in 1972 by Her Majesty the Queen and located on the former RAF aerodrome at Hendon, North London, the RAF museum houses a superb collection of aircraft showcasing the history of the Royal Air Force and Worldwide aviation.

In 2018 the Museum underwent a major transformation, including redesignation of some hangars, to celebrate the RAF Centenary.
Some aircraft relocated to a different hangar, as noted, others were switched with the Royal Air Force Museum Midlands at Cosford.

The UK's first aircraft factory purpose-built on the site by Claude Grahame-White in 1917.
The Gallery re-opened in November 2014 to display the First World War in the Air exhibition.
