Opened in 2000, the Croydon Airport Visitor Centre is a volunteer led micro museum featuring interactive displays, exhibits and visual images charting the history of Croydon Airport as a World War I airfield, London’s international airport, Battle of Britain airfield and closure in 1959. Some of the displays are located in the world’s oldest Air Traffic Control Tower.
Displayed as G-AXOL to represent the final service operated out of Croydon Airport in 1959 by a de Havilland DH114 Heron 1B to Rotterdam piloted by Captain Geoffrey Last. Aircraft is actually de Havilland DH114 Heron 2D G-ANUO
