Lone Star Flight Museum, Houston

11551 Aerospace Avenue, Houston, TX 77034

[Ellington Airport]

The museum originally began as a private collection of historic aircraft in 1985. The owner placed them on public display in 1990 as the collection grew. The Lone Star Flight Museum, a non-profit organization funded entirely through private donations, was formed. Formerly located in Galveston, the museum suffered heavy damage and devastation during Hurricane Ike in September 2008. Most of the airworthy planes were flown out prior to the hurricane, however the remaining aircraft were destroyed or heavily damaged.

Following this destruction, the museum moved to Ellington International Airport in Houston. Working closely with the Collings Foundation and Texas Flying Legends to create a combined aviation museum complex, the new museum opened in September 2017. The majority of the collection remain airworthy.
