Established in 1993, the Slovak Air Force together with the Czech Air Force succeeded the Czechoslovak Air Force and serves as the aviation defence branch of the Slovak Armed Forces. Since 2002 it has been known as the Air Force of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic (Vzdušné Sily Ozbrojených Síl Slovenskej Republiky)
